I was pretty sure I had uncorked a Vin du Marje bottle before, but I couldn’t find it on my blog, so I thought I was wrong. But I should have trusted my palate because, as I was preparing to write this post, I searched my photo gallery and found out that I first tried it back in December 2025. The difference: Last time’s vintage was 2016; this time’s vintage was 2018.

Overall, I think it’s an above-average red wine with friendly tannins that can be paired with strong cheeses and cold cuts. Lively on the palate, I got notes of plum, black cherry, licorice, and subtle hints of leather. Nice finish.

I wouldn’t mind uncorking another bottle.

The first sip tastes like prayer.
More precisely, like receiving the Eucharist.
Then, I pour the second glass and a bouquet of notes
made from ripe red fruits and ripe black fruits
plays with my palate.
Now, the wine tastes like a poem
aged in a barrel, and
I can taste the darkness it was kept in.
I confess all my sins, and He forgives me.
I pour a third glass and thank God
for everything.

Family and friends sit around the fire I started in the backyard of the Airbnb we rented in Tarshish. It’s a windy night. The fire is dancing wildly in the pit as if it’s a wildfire that doesn’t want to be tamed.

I uncork the first bottle of red of the night. I fill the glasses, and everybody takes a sip. It’s a 14-year-old wine. I taste the sweetness that comes with age. Then I get strong notes of wood, licorice, ripe black fruits, blackberries, black cherries, etc.

The wine is good.
Everybody is in a good mood.
Life is good.
