The System Is Flawed

The system is flawed; otherwise, it wouldn’t work.
If it weren’t flawed, we’d go mad —
it would officially be
a dystopia.

“How can you tell we’re not already in a dystopia?”
“Because we still have hope.”

The system is flawed, and that’s why it’s still working.
And hope lives in that loophole
that the flaw has slit.

Enjoying an Ixir Grand Reserve Red 2016, a wine from North Lebanon

Lebanese Wines: Ixsir Grand Reserve Red 2016

Name: Ixsir Grand Reserve Red 2016
Type: Red Wine
Grapes: Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon
Year: 2016
Country: Lebanon
Region: North Lebanon
Date Consumed: April 9, 2024

A wooden bowl filled
with black fruits and red fruits.
I feel I’m
on a hill constantly caressed by the wind
coming from the sea.

It’s a weeknight and friends are over
for barbecue
and for moments of loud laughter.

I uncorked this bottle minutes
before they arrived
and had a few sips,
looking for verses and notes
residing in the elixir,
looking for memories
I haven’t made yet.

Talk About Dead Men

Talk about dead men.
Quote them
to show
how they were always right,
how you are also right because
you know what they know
because you read their works
or because you happen to agree with them.

Talk about dead men.
Quote them
and make your opinion
universal.

And when someone else quotes
another dead man,
give them hell by quoting
yet another dead man.
