Review of the Lebanese Wine from the Bekaa Valley Chateau Kefraya Comte de M 2020

Lebanese Wines: Chateau Kefraya Comte de M 2020

Type: Red Wine
Grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah
Year: 2020
Country: Lebanon
Region: Bekaa Valley

One of the best Lebanese wines one can have.

Chateau Kefraya’s Comte de M 2020 is a full-bodied wine with playful tannins, and it comes with notes of black fruits, plum, tobacco, oak, and leather.

The most impressive Comte de M vintage I’ve had is probably 2008, which I’ve paired with a Macanudo cigar back in 2021, but this young 2020 vintage that I’ve tried recently was also quite impressive. (If I had another bottle, however, I’d definitely age it a few years. It’s a wine that deserves to be matured.)

Naturally, the Comte de M is a wine that would pair nicely with red meat, strong cheeses, and charcuterie. But I prefer to add some smokiness to the whole experience and pair it with mild or medium-bodied cigars rather than food. It is how I roll…

Lebanese Wines: Chateau Oumsiyat Jaspe 2019

Here we have an easy-to-drink, medium-bodied red wine from Mount Lebanon.

Since I had to uncork it on a hot summer day, I made sure I cooled it a little. Mostly, I got notes of red fruits and a mild aftertaste of spices.

Balanced tannins. Good vibes. Nothing to complain about.

Overall, although the wine did its job, I wasn’t totally impressed by it. It’s a good wine, good enough to uncork a bottle on a weekday afternoon, but not good enough for me to say I loved it.

Enjoying an excellent red Lebanese wine, the Massaya Terrasses de Baalbeck.

Lebanese Wines: Massaya Terrasses de Baalbeck 2018

Name: Massaya Terrasses de Baalbeck 2018
Type: Red Wine
Grapes: Grenache, Mourvedre, Syrah
Year: 2018
Country: Lebanon
Region: Faqra (Mount Lebanon) and Bekaa Valley (Taanayel)
Date Consumed: April 7, 2024

Love-making in the temple of Dionysus. Ripe red fruits, black cherry, jelly beans, and Coca-Cola. I could also taste oak barrels, faux leather, and subtle hints of cinnamon.

Massaya’s “Terrasses de Baalbeck” is a party wine. It is a desire to party after midnight, to flirt with the peeping moon, the stars, and the lascivious nocturnal spirits. It’s a wine I’d drink pairing it only with dance music, although it can also easily be paired with cold cuts and juicy steaks.

Excellent.
