Review of the wine from Lebanon Domaine des Tourelles Carignan Vieilles Vignes 2021

Lebanese Wines: Domaine des Tourelles Carignan Vieilles Vignes 2021

Name: Domaine des Tourelles Carignan Vieilles Vignes 2021
Type: Red Wine
Grapes: Carignan
Year: 2021
Country: Lebanon
Region: Bekaa Valley
Date Consumed: December 4, 2025

Although not my favorite grape, the 2021 Carignan from Domaine des Tourelles is a straightforward expression of Lebanese Carignan. It is dry, medium-bodied, with medium tannins.

Typical Carignan notes greet you as soon as you take your first sip. You’ll easily find red cherry, raspberry, and the like, and then comes a light touch of earthiness and licorice.

The (unripe) red fruit acidity is there and lends the wine a brighter, slightly lean character.

Overall, it’s a simple and unpretentious Carignan, and there’s not much else I can say about it.

Review of Lebanese Red Wines: Chateau Cana Jardin Secret

Lebanese Wines: Chateau Cana Jardin Secret 2016

Name: Chateau Cana Jardin Secret 2016
Type: Red Wine
Grapes: Sabbaghieh
Year: 2016
Country: Lebanon
Region: Mount Lebanon
Date Consumed: December 16, 2024

A medium-bodied red wine from Mount Lebanon that had stronger tannins than I expected and notes of black cherries, strawberry lollipops, olive oil, tobacco, and leather. (And there was this ferric, rusty aftertaste that I couldn’t understand. Where did it come from?)

Now and then, I swirled the wine to observe the sediment that gave it character. “Some people look much wiser than they are,” I thought. And then I said to myself that Chateau Cana’s Comète Rouge is much better than the Jardin Secret, even though the former is much cheaper than the latter.

Overall, the Jardin Secret is a good wine that could have been better. I’d give it a 72/100.

Wine Review of the Domaine Wary Beqaa Valley Red

Lebanese Wines: Domaine Wardy Beqaa Valley Red 2019

Name: Domaine Wardy Beqaa Valley Red 2019
Type: Red Wine
Grapes: Cinsault, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon
Year: 2019
Country: Lebanon
Region: Bekaa Valley
Date Consumed: December 3, 2024

A nice blend. The Domaine Wardy Beqaa Valley Red is a medium-to-full-bodied red wine with hints of ripe red fruits, prune, blackberry, tobacco, and spices. It is gentle on the palate but can be paired with strong flavors. I’d drink it with hamburgers, buffalo wings with blue cheese sauce, and all sorts of strong cheeses. I’m giving this one a 77/100 now, but I might give it a higher score later when I consume a few more bottles of it.
