October 2, 2024: Stupidity Is Masculine

In Nietzsche’s Human, All Too Human, we read:

The unfeminine. “Stupid as a man,” say the women; “Cowardly as a woman,” say the men. Stupidity in a woman is unfeminine.

Reading this, we immediately grasp the following: that stupidity is a masculine trait. And who is brave enough to disagree? Does this not explain one of the greatest memes ever? “Hold my beer,” the meme says. But it means, “I’m about to do something stupid.”

It’s how men have fun.

Think of your friends now, my man. The manliest is the one who’s willing to unleash his inner stupidity in order to have a good time.

“Let’s do something stupid,” great men say all the time.

The man who’s never willing to make an ass of himself is unmasculine. He is half-man and half-loser. Chances are he doesn’t have a lot of friends.

Any man who has had “guy time” or has used the phrase “out with the boys” instinctively knows this. Stupidity is what fuels the good time men have when they’re at a safe distance from women.

They crack open a cold one, and the good times begin.

September 2, 2023: Why do these lousy muses decide to visit when I’m hungover?

Clusters of unrelated thoughts, a brain fog, and a headache.
I crawled out of bed after a long night of drinking with Dionysus.
My mouth was as dry as forgotten laundry in the sun.
But instead of looking for water, I looked for a pen.
Why do these lousy muses decide to visit when I’m hungover?

Yesterday – what happened yesterday?
My neck is sore from all the head-banging.
It was a lot of fun.

Today – how can I have a normal day?
I woke up dead, but I feel so alive.
I want to do things.

First, water.
Then I’m ready to create.

February 4, 2023: People Try to Fix You

People try to fix you
as if you’re broken
or as if you have been doing things wrong
all your life.

They tell you, “You don’t understand.
Let me show you how it’s done.”
And you let them.
You stay calm and let them
teach you whatever it is they want to teach you.

People try to fix you
and expect you to be fixed the next time they see you.
But they don’t understand that they can never change you
because they are the ones who need to change.

They try to fix you
only because they are broken,
and you don’t have the courage or the time
to tell them that they are.
