Have a Cigar: Horacio VI

Name: Horacio VI

Country: Nicaragua

Shape: Parejo

Size: (4 inches x 66)

Strength: Medium

The Horacio VI from the Classic series that I tried last night wasn’t a bad cigar. It had a good draw, and it burned well. I paired it with Russian vodka and got hints of leather, light roast coffee, and bell pepper.

A cigar paired with vodka

Have a Cigar: Plasencia Reserva 1898 Robusto

Name: Plasencia Reserva 1898 Robusto

Country: Nicaragua

Shape: Parejo

Size: (4 3/4 inches x 52)

Strength: Medium

I paired the Plasencia Reserva 1898 Robusto with Polish vodka and smoked it alone on the balcony on a cold night.

Smoking alone has become a habit. Drinking vodka on the rocks, too.

I enjoy the solitude.

I try not to use my phone, and I try not to think. I let my mind drift.

It’s a form of meditation, I suppose. And, slowly, I’m getting to know myself.

The cigar helps.

A bearded man with an aquiline nose,
with blue eyes turned grey from the cold,
sinks in a leather armchair after a long day.

He exhales the world slowly
and inhales solitude.
At last! he finds himself in a lounge
where thoughts don’t leak from mouths,
where ideas don’t turn to noise.

He calls the waiter and says,
“Please bring me an Islay whisky.
I would like to taste earth and fire.”

As he waits for his drink,
he pulls out a cigar
from the inside pocket of his jacket
and smells it.
Then he cuts it, licks it, lights it,
and leans back in his chair.

The whisky comes.
The smoke rises.

The man enters his cave.
