Smoking a Rocky Patel at Fat Monk, Dbayeh, Lebanon

Have a Cigar: Rocky Patel A.L.R. Second Edition Toro

Name: Rocky Patel Aged Limited Rare Second Edition Toro

Country: Nicaragua

Shape: Box-Pressed

Size: (6 1/2 inches x 52)

Strength: Medium

Finally got the chance to smoke this Rocky Patel, which is listed as Cigar Aficionado’s number 5 cigar of 2019. I’m not 100% sure, but I believe this is also the first Rocky Patel cigar that I try.

The Rocky Patel A.L.R. Second Edition Toro is a well-made, box-pressed, premium cigar that you can proudly smoke publicly with a smile on your face that says, “Oh, yes, this is a great cigar.” (I love how it looks.)

It’s medium-bodied and flavorsome. It has a firm draw and burns wonderfully. So everyone can enjoy it.

I paired it with imperial stout, and I was very happy about it.

Have a Cigar: Davidoff Escurio Corona Gorda

Name: Davidoff Escurio Corona Gorda

Country: Dominican Republic

Shape: Parejo

Size: (6 inches x 46)

Strength: Medium to Full

This cigar tastes like petrichor
and the cool afternoon shade of a tall tree by the river
mixed with the sweat of a hard-working man
accompanied by the aroma of hand-picked coffee beans
and cedar
and hints of pink peppercorn.

It tastes like the last storm of March
and the mud of early April.

I discovered the Oliva brand only last year. Today, Oliva Serie V cigars are in my smoking repertoire and definitely in my top 10. The greatest of them is the Oliva Serie V Melanio Figurado, which was Cigar Aficionado’s cigar of the year of 2014.

On the other hand, the Oliva Serie V Maduro Double Toro that you see in the image has lately become one of my go-to Oliva cigars. I love it because it’s big, full-bodied, and comes with notes of cocoa, dark roast coffee, and oak. It goes extremely well with whatever I pair it with, including Islay whiskies that I love so much.
